Information Science Researcher & Digital Library Specialist
Combating misinformation in health informatics and social media through innovative research in information behavior and knowledge management systems.
Mohammed Liton Ali is a Bangladeshi information professional currently serving as an Assistant Cataloguer at the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Gazipur, and as a Liaison Officer at the university’s International Affairs and External Communication Office. In these dual roles, he contributes to the university’s academic and administrative advancement by managing cataloguing operations, digital library systems, and global partnerships. He assists international students with visa facilitation, travel coordination, and integration support, ensuring a seamless international academic experience. Liton earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Information Science and Library Management from the University of Dhaka, graduating with outstanding distinction (CGPA 3.90 and 3.97, respectively). His academic excellence was recognized through numerous prestigious awards, including the Mohammad Shahidullah Memorial Gold Medal, Dean’s Awards of Honour (Undergraduate and Master’s), Provost Awards of Academic Excellence, University Grants Commission Scholarship, and Mitsubishi UFJ Foundation Scholarship, among many others. He stood third in the Rajshahi Education Board during his Higher Secondary studies and received a Talentpool Scholarship for his exemplary performance. At IUT, Liton has played a leading role in modernizing the university library’s infrastructure by developing a new library website, implementing Koha-based automation, and integrating barcode circulation and email notifications. He has trained library staff and streamlined cataloguing and access to over 40,000 resources. Currently, he is spearheading the RFID system implementation for automated library circulation and designing a user-centered digital platform to enhance accessibility and service efficiency. His technical expertise includes Koha, DSpace, SLiMS, Greenstone, DocuDex, RFID systems, and web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, and R. Beyond IUT, Liton has contributed to over 15 library automation and digitization projects across Bangladesh, including those at the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association Library, Foreign Service Academy Library, Institute of Business Administration (IBA), International Mother Language Institute, and several departmental libraries at the University of Dhaka. His ongoing research project, Toward Designing a Zero-Budget Digital Library Framework for School and College Libraries of Bangladesh, reflects his commitment to creating sustainable, low-cost digital access to knowledge. Liton’s research interests lie in Artificial Intelligence in Academia, Information Retrieval, Informatics, Health Informatics, Cognitive Learning, Misinformation and Infodemic Studies, and Online Education. His works have been published in leading journals, including the Journal of Information and Knowledge Management (World Scientific), and he received the Best Paper Award at the 4th International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (IIKM) 2025. He is an active member of professional associations such as ASIS&T, ALISE, ACM, and the Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB), where he has served as Chair-Elect and Secretary of ASIS&T SIG-AVC. Beyond his professional engagements, Liton volunteers as an Amanuensis for blind students, a mentor to undergraduate LIS students, and a regular blood donor with Badhon. Driven by innovation and a deep belief in equitable access to information, Liton continues to advance digital transformation and information literacy within academic communities in Bangladesh and beyond.
